Do You Get Enough Sleep?

Anyone who knows me, knows I need a solid 8-9 hours of sleep a night to function! This is a priority for me as I don’t like the way I feel when I don’t get a good night’s rest. I choose not to drink coffee to compensate for a lack of sleep and want to function at my optimal each day.

There have been many studies conducted on the benefits of getting enough sleep, how it impacts on your health and well-being if you don’t, and yet so many people don’t make their sleep a priority.

Sleep is also a time for us to dream. Believe it or not, we all dream each night, despite the fact we may not be able to recall it the next morning. During our dream state our subconscious mind is sorting out the issues we face at that time and we are offered solutions (all be them rather cryptic).

Chances are if you’re not sleeping enough, it’s because you have a lot going on in your life and are stressed. Know that you are therefore depriving yourself the opportunity to problem solve while you sleep.

So much work is done on us in our sleep state, I feel this really adds to the, already solid evidence suggesting that getting a good night’s sleep is crucial. If you have trouble falling asleep, don’t forget the legs up the wall or bed head trick. Hold them there for 5 minutes and sleep should come to you very quickly once you lie back down!
